Let's build a fair society together and a dignified life for LGBTI+ people

The non-governmental organization Saplinq, o.z. was founded in 2012. Our most important projects include Košice PRIDE and the community and counseling center PRIZMA in Košice. We also train dozens of people annually in LGBTI+ topics.

We advocate for the rights of LGBTI+ people and fair policies. For a long time, we have also been providing training to young people, especially activists, and thus we build a society where LGBTI+ people are able to live a dignified life.

We conduct campaigns to raise awareness to the reality of the lives of LGBTI+ people in Slovakia. The biggest of them is The Rainbow Ribbon campaign. We join forces with various engaged civil society actors and mobilize together for legislation and practice fair to the LGBTI+ people.

WHAT WE DO

Advocacy

Saplinq advocates for the rights of LGBTI+ people and policies that guarantee equality for the queer community. We advocate for justice and human rights for all, and against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or gender expression.
  • We mobilize against repressive legislative proposals targeting the rights of LGBTI+ people, we lobby the government, the parliament and political parties.
  • We participate in the Committee for the Rights of LGBTI+ persons at the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, we lobby the ministries and state agencies.
  • We engage the general public in creating civil society pressure through petitions and appeals creating grass-roots pressure.
  • We also engage in the international LGBTI+ rights movement, we closely cooperate with and are a member organization of ILGA Europe and TGEU - Transgender Europe. 
  • We advocate on behalf of LGBTI+ people and their rights in Slovakia on international platforms: the UN conventions and committees, we inform the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe. ​

​Community and counselling center for LGBTI+ people

​PRIZMA Košice is a project of a community and counseling center for LGBTI+ people and their relatives. It offers free legal, psychological and social counseling and responds to the need to meet in a safe environment, to grow personally and emotionally and raise awareness of the needs of LGBTI+ people or prejudices they encounter in a public environment.

Education

Every year, Saplinq organizes several international and local trainings focused on LGBTI+ topics. Annually, we train dozens of young people, experts from various fields, mainly from helping professions, and people working with youth.

Community organizing

Through community organizing, we are building a network of active people who want to organize and mobilize for the human rights of LGBTI+ people in Slovakia.

This platform is open to all active people, who are determined to build a just society and fight for equal rights for LGBTI+ people, regardless of their age, sexual and gender identity, and who want to contribute to resilient communities throughout Slovakia.​

PRIDE Košice

​The PRIDE festival and the march for equality through the city of Košice draw attention to the fact that LGBTI+ people have always existed and we are here to stay. Košice PRIDE  carries the original protest message of Prides and the struggle for equal rights of LGBTI+ people. Every year in late August Košice PRIDE offers a week full of  community activities, workshops and discussions, as well as musical and artistic performances or exhibitions.

The Rainbow Ribbon Campaign

The Rainbow Ribbon Campaign has been running since 2021 around the 17th of May - International Day Against Homo-, Bi-, Trans- and Intersexphobia (IDAHOBIT). This day marks the removal of homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases.

By wearing the rainbow ribbon, one visibly expresses solidarity and respect for the LGBTI+ community. Proceeds from the campaign go to organizations advocating for equality and a dignified life for LGBTI+ people in Slovakia.​
